Sustainability at the Solheim Cup Driving Progress

The Solheim Cup 2026 will set a new benchmark for what a sustainable sports tournament can be. Our sustainability approach is anchored in the Celebrate Nature pillar, demonstrating how major sporting events can be held with care and respect for the environment. Golf and nature are intrinsically linked, and at Bernardus Golf, we’re showing how harmony between the two can thrive.

Our goal is simple but ambitious: to minimize emissions, reduce waste, and restore biodiversity, all while creating an unforgettable experience. To achieve this, we will focus on: low-emission mobility, the use of renewable energy, circular and conscious material use, local and organic catering, smart water management, and active nature restoration on and around the course.

Together Toward a Greener Legacy

These initiatives are just the beginning. With each edition of the Solheim Cup, our aim is to raise the bar, expand our impact to set a new standard for what’s possible when sport and sustainability unite.

  • We’re transforming how energy is used and sourced throughout the event.

    • Executing a Smart Power Plan to optimize efficiency

    • Prioritizing battery storage and mains power over traditional generators

    • Piloting on-site renewable energy, including a solar showcase to power the long term contractors compound

    • All temporary power onsite powered by biofuels

    • Live TV production powered by hydrogen

  • We're designing with intention, choosing materials that can be reused, repurposed, or regenerated.

    • Implementing a circular procurement plan across staging, structures, and décor

    • Launching reuse schemes for food and drinkware in high-traffic zones

  • We’re rethinking travel logistics to reduce emissions across every group.

    • Eliminating general parking to reduce on-site vehicle impact

    • Promoting and supporting low-emission travel options

    • Offering zero-emission last-mile incentives, including bike transfers

    • Full fleet of electric golf carts servicing the event

  • Our approach protects, restores, and enhances the biodiversity of our host venue and its surroundings.

    • Mapping and avoiding ecologically sensitive areas

    • Restoring natural habitats post-event

    • Supporting reforestation, rewilding, and local conservation initiatives

  • Water is a shared resource, and we’re treating it with care.

    • Minimizing non-consumption water usage per visitor

    • Relying on tap water for the majority of drinking needs

    • Reducing wastewater through smart infrastructure

  • Our food philosophy is rooted in sustainability, regional pride, and culinary innovation.

    • Featuring seasonal, Dutch-sourced ingredients to reduce food miles

    • Committing to Fairtrade beverages across the event where possible

    • Showcasing plant-based dishes crafted by local chefs in the fan zone
