During tournaments, this was the most difficult hole on the course. The tee shot is intimidating—water on the left tempts players to play it safe to the right, but bunkers await there. From the sand, reaching the green is difficult. One option is to lay up short of the bunkers, but this leaves a long second shot into a small green. Left of the green is a deep valley; right is water. On the final hole, finding the fairway with your tee shot is crucial—otherwise, a bogey or worse comes quickly.

BERNARDUS GOLF IS A CHALLENGING 18-HOLE CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF COURSE, ONE OF EUROPE’S FINEST.
Designed by American architect Kyle Phillips, who was also responsible for the design of world-famous courses like Kingsbarns, The Grove, and Yas Links. Bernardus Golf was built as a heathland golf course, covering 85 hectares with four Par 3 holes, ten Par 4 holes, and four Par 5 holes. The numerous bunkers are laid out beautifully and the tricky water hazards seamlessly blend in with the background of dunes, heath, and gorse. Top condition in the most natural way possible
Sustainability is high on the agenda at Bernardus Golf. Chemicals are not used to maintain the course. Instead, a devoted team of 17 greenkeepers works tirelessly to keep the facilities impeccable. They strive to keep the correct balance of bacteria and fungi in the soil, to ensure the grass stays in top condition, in the most natural way possible.
Since it opened its doors Bernardus Golf has hosted the 2021, 2022, and 2023 Dutch Open, part of the European PGA tour.

A challenging par-4, where the wind is usually against you. Ideally, aim for the left side of the fairway to get the best angle to the green, but this brings the bunker into play. When the flag is on the left, missing the green on that side can be costly, as it slopes steeply downward. Players should be happy with a par on this opening hole.
